Veola 'Vee' Gabbard, 102, Dies in Linton

Veola M. "Vee" Gabbard, 102, of Linton died Friday, June 5, 2026. She was born September 29, 1923, in Yemassee, South Carolina, to Andrew and Laura Holt.

Gabbard married Alfred Lee Gabbard on January 31, 1947. The couple farmed in the Lonetree area. She worked as a waitress, salesperson, cashier and bookkeeper.

She taught Sunday school and Bible school at Nine Mile Community Church and led the BYF. She served in the Missionary Society at local and state levels.

She is survived by three children: Danny Gabbard of Linton, Beverly Dorraugh of Linton and Carla Friestad of Arizona; her brother Pete Holt of North Carolina; sisters Sylvia Jackson and Peggy Ward of North Carolina; eight grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; fourteen great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 68 years, Alfred Lee Gabbard; her parents; stepmother Mary Holt; three sons-in-law; stepdaughter Phyllis Hamilton; and five siblings.

Funeral service will be held at noon Thursday, June 11, 2026, at Welch & Cornett Funeral Home in Linton. Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. Burial will follow at Walker Cemetery in Jasonville.
