Barbara Reed, Beloved Linton Teacher, Dies at 83
Barbara L. Reed, who taught elementary school in Linton for many years, died June 5 at Serenity Spring Senior Living in Jasonville. She was 83.
Born Sept. 5, 1942, to Ershel G. and Helen (Gonser) Miller, Reed graduated from Linton-Stockton High School in 1960. She married Wayne L. Reed on Christmas Eve 1961.
After raising four children, Reed earned her degree from Indiana State University in 1979 and taught at Linton-Stockton Elementary School, where she worked with generations of local students. She was a member of Linton First Christian Church.
Reed kept a weather journal, maintained scrapbooks, and gardened. In retirement, she and her husband traveled the country in their camper for ten years.
She is survived by her husband; children Kevin (Melissa) Reed, Jay (Cheryl) Reed, David Reed, and Dr. Barbara Ann (Keith) Reed-Schuessler; six grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and sister-in-law Wanda Miller.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 10, at Welch & Cornett Funeral Home, with Archie Ellett officiating. Burial will follow at Beech Cemetery in Coal City. Visitation is Tuesday from 5 to 8 p.m. and Wednesday from 10 a.m. until the service.
