Rev. Megan Berkowitz Pastor MeganMay 29, 2026 Dear church Things remain busy at UCW in these last few weeks of the church year! We are in the final contract negotiation stage with our new settled music director (so keep an eye out for an official announcement and bio soon!), continuing Visioning work with more to be presented at Annual Meeting, and of course preparing the annual budget review, nominating slate, and other Annual Meeting business. It has been a very full and fruitful spring, and I hope to see many of you this Sunday and in the weeks to come as we end this church year well and looks towards the changing pace of the summer. Peace, Megan Last chance to register for Jade Hargrave’s Ecclesiastical Council! UCW’s former Student Minister, Jade Hargrave, has progressed through the UCC’s ordination process to the point of an Ecclesiastical Council. At this Council, delegates will hear excerpts from Jade’s Spiritual Journey and Call and her portfolio demonstrating her pathway to ministry. Delegates can then ask questions, and will vote as to whether to approve Jade to be eligible for ordination, pending a call. Pastor Megan will attend the EC, to be held on June 1:00 at 6:00 p.m. at Wellesley Village Church and online. If you’d like to join, you can register through the UCC: https://sneucc-reg.brtapp.com/JadeHEC0601. One UCW member in addition to Pastor Megan can serve as a delegate, but as many can attend as would like to, and it would be wonderful to have a group attend from our church to demonstrate our support for Jade’s ministry. Contact Pastor Megan with questions. Past Posts From Pastor MeganRev. Megan Berkowitz June 5, 2026 Though it turned out to be quite a hot night, it was a joy to join with Katie, members of the congregation, and our siblings from other affirming faith communities in Newton at the annual Newton Pride flag raising celebration and resource fair this past week. In a season in our country when the rights of LGBTQ+ people are under attack and public support for our rights is waning rather than increasing for the first time in decades, we gathered to remind ourselves and the world that LGBTQ+ people are deeply and beautifully woven into the fabric of our community. We have a very special service planned for Sunday morning, with guest musicians, an abundance communion table, and, of course, Easter Egg Hunt to follow (including rain plans!). It is such a joy to gather together for Easter each year: to remember the gifts of our faith, the triumph of new life in God over violence and death, the accompaniment of Christ through our greatest sorrows and greatest joys. I hope you will join us, and bring family or friends who could use a little Good News this week. Learn More From Pastor Megan: Marce 27. 2026Rev. This June and beyond, if you want a conversation starter about how your church is welcoming and affirming of all people, find me to get one of our new UCW stickers that we gave out at the fair. Welcoming Cynthia Sanger! UCW’s new Settled Music Director The UCW Music Search Committee is delighted to announce the hiring of our new Settled Music Director, Cynthia Sanger. Some of you may even know Cynthia, who is a Newton local. Cynthia impressed both the committee and the choir with her musical skills and with the energy and passion with which she directed our choir during her audition. We hope all will welcome Cynthia enthusiastically when she joins us this fall! UCW Music Search Committee,James Cooke and Diane Tillotson, co-chairs, Liz Caronna, Glenn Cunningham, John Weisz, and Pastor Megan Active as a freelance performer, Cynthia Sanger has presented recitals as a solo artist and collaborative pianist throughout New England and in her native Midwest. She regularly collaborates with choirs and especially enjoys working with singers. Ms. Sanger’s repertoire ranges from Mompou, Persichetti, and Poulenc, to Martinu, Chopin, and Rota. Drawn to music that’s rich with imagery and dance, she also performs piano arrangements of orchestral works. Cynthia completed her undergraduate degree at Northwestern University where she studied both music and speech/language pathology. Her Master’s degree is in piano performance from the Longy School of Music. She is excited to embark on this new adventure with the Union Church in Waban.
