Severe Thunderstorm Warning: Lincoln County Urged to Seek Immediate Shelter

LINCOLN, CO – Residents in East Central Lincoln County are urged to seek immediate shelter as a Severe Thunderstorm Warning has been issued by the National Weather Service (NWS) Denver CO. The warning is in effect from 3:25 PM MDT until 3:45 PM MDT today, September 20.

At 3:25 PM MDT, a severe thunderstorm was located 12 miles south of Arriba, or 26 miles southeast of Limon, moving southeast at 35 mph. This storm is capable of producing tennis ball size hail and 60 mph wind gusts.

The NWS reports that people and animals outdoors will be injured. Expect hail damage to roofs, siding, windows, and vehicles. Wind damage to roofs, siding, and trees is also expected. Hail may accumulate on roadways, leading to hazardous travel conditions.

Anyone currently outdoors should move to shelter inside a well-built structure and stay away from windows. This storm poses a significant threat of dangerous hail and damaging winds.
