Hurricane Season Prep: Harnett County Emergency Guide
Harnett County Emergency Services is urging residents to prepare for hurricane season, which runs June 1 through November 30.
"By taking the time to create a plan and gather essential supplies, residents can protect themselves, their families, and their property," said Wesley Zeringue, Emergency Services Director.
The department recommends residents develop a family communication plan, identify evacuation routes, and ensure every household member knows what to do when a hurricane threatens the area.
Residents should assemble a supply kit containing non-perishable food, one gallon of water per person for at least three days, a battery-powered or hand-crank radio, flashlight, first-aid kit, medications, and personal hygiene items.
Home preparation includes trimming trees and shrubs, securing loose outdoor objects, and considering hurricane shutters or window reinforcement. Residents should also review insurance policies to ensure adequate coverage for potential hurricane damage.
