Liberty Schools Boost Student Learning Through Teacher Collaboration
Liberty Central School District has made collaboration central to its educational approach, with teachers examining student data together and students working across classrooms and grade levels.
"Collaboration fosters growth, innovation and problem-solving skills," said Robert England, Liberty Elementary School principal.
Liberty Elementary piloted Lesson Structure Study last year, a lesson-building process that Assistant Principal Paul Voigtland created. The math department tested the approach first.
At the middle school, fifth and sixth grade students recently completed a 2026 Winter Olympics project that combined social studies and math. Students predicted medal counts and charted results in math class while learning about different countries in social studies. They earned authentic Olympic pins through the project.
High school students access college courses through partnerships with Sullivan BOCES for career and technical education and SUNY Sullivan. The district added Syracuse University Project Advance science courses and introduced a Siena College computer science course last year.
The district also partners with community organizations through student volunteer clubs and events like the annual All Things Liberty Winterfest.
