Liberty Schools Win 7th National Music Education Award
Liberty Central School District has earned the Best Communities for Music Education designation from the NAMM Foundation for the seventh consecutive year.
The award recognizes districts that demonstrate outstanding achievement in providing music access and education to all students. Liberty qualified by answering detailed questions about funding, instructional time, participation rates, facilities and community support. WolfBrown, a research and evaluation firm specializing in education and the arts, independently reviewed all applications.
"Creativity, discipline and emotional expression as well as cognitive and motor skills are all enhanced through music," said Eric Aweh, LCSD Director of Music.
Liberty musicians and vocalists participate in concerts, ensembles, parades, all-county and all-state events throughout the year. The district hosted the Sullivan County All-County Music Festival in March.
The spring concert series begins in May: Liberty High School Mixed Spring concert on May 6, Grades 7-8 Spring concert on May 12, LHS Honors concert on May 14, and Elementary Spring concert on June 1. All concerts start at 6:30 p.m. in the High School auditorium.
The Liberty Music and Community Fest takes place at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, June 10, in Lapolt Park.
"The NAMM Foundation's continued recognition of our dedication to providing a quality music education is appreciated," Superintendent Dr. Patrick Sullivan said.
