St. Louis Police Nab Suspect in Police HQ Burglary, Armed Robberies
St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department spokesman Mitch McCoy confirmed the arrest of a 25-year-old man in Fredericktown on Tuesday following a burglary at the department's headquarters garage on April 21. The suspect allegedly stole several items, including a firearm, from the secure facility near downtown. The quick apprehension came after investigators tracked leads from the break-in, which exposed vulnerabilities at the heart of the city's law enforcement hub.
In related probes, police are investigating two unconnected armed robberies in north St. Louis. The first occurred around 10:45 p.m. on a Monday at a Phillips 66 gas station and convenience store in the 4900 block of Union Boulevard. Two white male suspects, one wielding a handgun and wearing a face mask, the other in a gray hooded sweatshirt, jumped behind the counter, grabbed cash from the register and tobacco products, then fled when unable to open the safe. No injuries were reported.
The second robbery struck just after 11 p.m. on May 8 in the 2100 block of North 14th Street near Madison Street, north of downtown. A 32-year-old woman, fresh from an ATM withdrawal, was accosted by two male suspects emerging from a black Pontiac G8 with guns equipped with flashlights. Disoriented and pushed to the ground, she lost her backpack containing cash and items. Police released suspect images and vehicle details, believing the robbers tailed her from the ATM.
Overnight in The Grove entertainment district, another pair of armed suspects targeted people in cars, assaulting victims and possibly breaking into vehicles. Security cameras from the Real Time Crime Center are aiding the search.
