Liberty Breaks Ground on OK Railroad Trail Project

Staff Writer
June 11, 2026

Liberty officials broke ground Wednesday on the OK Railroad Trail, launching construction on a project outlined as a top priority in the city's Parks and Recreation Master Plan.

Phase I will rehabilitate 2,230 linear feet of trail with a 10-foot-wide concrete path and a 4-foot-wide lime-screen running surface. The project includes two benches, a water bottle filling station, a pedestrian counter, trail signage, landscaping, and two butterfly gardens.

The Missouri Department of Natural Resources Recreational Trails Program funded the project through a grant city staff secured. The program receives federal money through the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law.
