A Tropical Storm Warning is in effect for Southern Liberty, including Central City and Apalachicola National Forest, with residents urged to prepare for hazardous winds, major flooding from heavy rain, and the potential for tornadoes starting today, October 8, at 8:01 AM EDT.
A Tropical Storm Warning has been issued for Southern Liberty, affecting Central City and the Apalachicola National Forest. The National Weather Service (NWS) Tallahassee FL issued the warning today, October 8, at 8:01 AM EDT, effective immediately until 4:15 PM UTC. Residents should prepare for hazardous conditions and take immediate action.
Strong winds are expected, with peak gusts up to 30 mph, and the potential for sustained winds of 39 to 57 mph. Residents should complete efforts to protect property and prepare for limited wind damage to porches, awnings, and unanchored mobile homes. Large tree limbs may break, and some trees could be uprooted. Scattered power and communication outages are possible. Act now to secure loose items.
A Flood Watch is in effect, with an additional 3-6 inches of rain expected, leading to potential major flooding. This may cause widespread evacuations and rescues. Rivers and streams could overflow, and floodwaters may enter structures. Heed any flood watches and warnings; failure to act could result in serious injury or loss of life.
The NWS also indicates a potential for several tornadoes, some possibly intense. Those in manufactured homes or on boats should relocate to safe shelter. Listen for tornado watches and warnings and be ready to shelter quickly. Tornadoes can cause significant damage, power loss, and communications failures. No storm surge inundation is currently forecast, but rough surf and rip currents are possible.
