Tropical Storm Warning Issued for Southern Liberty; Evacuations Likely
A Tropical Storm Warning is in effect for Southern Liberty, with immediate action required for hazardous winds, major flooding, and potential tornadoes.
A Tropical Storm Warning has been issued for Southern Liberty, including Central City and Apalachicola National Forest, by the National Weather Service (NWS) Tallahassee FL, effective immediately. Residents are urged to complete all preparations now as hazardous conditions are imminent.
This severe warning is in effect until October 9 at 7:15 AM UTC (3:15 AM EDT). The NWS forecasts peak winds of 10-20 mph with gusts up to 35 mph, but warns of the potential for sustained winds of 39 to 57 mph. Limited damage to property and power outages are possible. Efforts to protect property should be underway.
A Flood Watch is in effect, with potential for an additional 4-8 inches of rain, and locally higher amounts. Emergency plans should include the potential for major flooding; evacuations and rescues are likely. Heed all flood watches and warnings, as failure to act could result in serious injury or loss of life.
The situation is also favorable for several tornadoes, with a few possibly intense. Those in manufactured homes or on boats should prepare to relocate to safe shelter. Listen for tornado watches and warnings, and be ready to shelter quickly if a warning is issued. Significant impacts, including widespread damage and power loss from tornadoes, are possible.
No storm surge inundation is forecast, but rough surf, coastal erosion, and life-threatening rip currents are possible. For more information, visit weather.gov/tallahassee or floridadisaster.org.
