Tropical Storm Warning Issued for Southern Liberty: Act Now!
A Tropical Storm Warning is in effect for Southern Liberty, including Central City and Apalachicola National Forest, with hazardous winds, major flooding, and tornado potential; residents must act now to complete preparations.
A Tropical Storm Warning has been issued for Southern Liberty, effective immediately, by the National Weather Service (NWS) Tallahassee FL. This warning affects Central City and the Apalachicola National Forest. Residents are advised to complete all preparations now.
Hazardous winds of 39 to 57 mph are possible, with peak gusts up to 30 mph. Expect limited damage to property, including porches, awnings, and unanchored mobile homes. Many large tree limbs may break, and some roads could become impassable due to debris. Scattered power and communication outages are also possible. Efforts to protect property should be underway.
A Flood Watch is in effect, with potential for an additional 3-6 inches of rain, and locally higher amounts. This could lead to major flooding, prompting evacuations and rescues. Rivers and small streams may overflow, and floodwaters could enter structures. Driving conditions will become dangerous, with many road closures expected.
The NWS also indicates a favorable situation for several tornadoes, with a few potentially intense. Those in manufactured homes or on boats should prepare to relocate to safe shelter. Listen for tornado watches and warnings, and be ready to shelter quickly if a warning is issued. Significant impacts from tornadoes are possible, including considerable damage and power loss.
There is little to no threat of storm surge flooding. The warning expires today, October 8, 2026, at 3:15 PM EDT. For more information, visit weather.gov/tallahassee or floridadisaster.org.
