Tropical Storm Warning for Southern Liberty: Act Now for High Winds, Flooding, Tornadoes
A Tropical Storm Warning has been issued for Southern Liberty, including Central City and Apalachicola National Forest, urging immediate preparations for high winds, major flooding, and the potential for several tornadoes.
A Tropical Storm Warning has been issued for Southern Liberty, including Central City and Apalachicola National Forest, effective immediately. The National Weather Service (NWS) Tallahassee FL issued the warning at 5:03 AM EDT today, October 8, 2026, and it remains in effect until 1:15 PM UTC today. Residents should complete all preparations now as tropical storm-force winds are expected within the next 36 hours.
Hazards include potential sustained winds of 39 to 57 mph, with peak gusts up to 30 mph. This could lead to limited damage to property, downed tree limbs, and scattered power outages. Efforts to protect property should be underway. Driving conditions may become hazardous.
A Flood Watch is also in effect, with an additional 3-6 inches of rain expected, and locally higher amounts possible. Major rainfall flooding may prompt evacuations and rescues. Heed all flood watches and warnings; failure to act could result in serious injury or loss of life. Rivers and small streams may overflow, making many roads impassable.
The NWS also indicates a potential for several tornadoes, some possibly intense. Those in manufactured homes or boats should prepare to relocate to safe shelter. Listen for tornado watches and warnings and be ready to shelter quickly if a warning is issued. For more information, visit weather.gov/tallahassee or floridadisaster.org.
