Dense Fog Expected This Morning: Drive with Caution

A Special Weather Statement has been issued by the National Weather Service for dense fog in numerous counties, advising drivers to use caution and allow extra travel time through 9:45 AM UTC.

Drivers in Ashe, Alleghany, Watauga, Tazewell, Smyth, Bland, Giles, Wythe, Pulaski, Montgomery, Grayson, Carroll, Floyd, Craig, Alleghany, Bath, Roanoke, Botetourt, Rockbridge, Patrick, Franklin, Bedford, Amherst, Henry, Pittsylvania, Campbell, Halifax, Mercer, Summers, Monroe, Eastern Greenbrier, and Western Greenbrier counties should prepare for difficult driving conditions this morning due to dense fog.

The National Weather Service (NWS) in Blacksburg, VA, issued a Special Weather Statement at 6:34 AM EDT on September 30, 2026. Pockets of dense fog are expected for the next 1-3 hours, reducing visibility to as low as 1/4 mile in localized areas.

This advisory is effective immediately and expires at 9:45 AM UTC (5:45 AM EDT) on September 30, 2026. The NWS recommends leaving early to account for slower commute times. Drive with extreme caution, use low-beam headlights, and allow extra space between vehicles.
