Irmo Honors Whitt Cline With Community Park Renaming
The Town of Irmo renamed its town park the Whitt Cline Community Park on March 24, honoring the retired public services director who led the town's landscaping efforts for 25 years.
Town Council adopted the measure unanimously. Workers installed the new sign on April 15.
As public services director and arborist, Cline secured Irmo's first Tree City USA designation in 2009 and maintained it annually.
Mayor Bill Danielson praised Cline at the dedication ceremony. "Whitt has been a dedicated servant to this community for over two decades," Danielson said. "His expertise in managing the beauty of our parks and public spaces is unparalleled."
Town Administrator Jim Crosland, who worked alongside Cline for 25 years, cited the trees lining Woodrow Street and the parks throughout town as evidence of his work.
Cline thanked those who attended the ceremony. "I appreciate everybody that's here tonight," he said. "I've got friends, work colleagues, and family here. We've got a good thing going here in Irmo, and I expect it to keep going."
The park is located at 7330 Carlisle Street. For more information, contact Danielle McNaughton, communications and special projects director.
