Winter Storm Warning: Heavy Snow, Hazardous Travel in Mountain Areas

A Winter Storm Warning is in effect until Monday morning for mountain areas, with heavy snow expected to cause difficult travel and potential power outages.

Staff Writer

A Winter Storm Warning has been issued for the Little Belt and Highwood Mountains, Snowy and Judith Mountains, and Elkhorn and Boulder Mountains by the National Weather Service (NWS) in Great Falls, MT. The warning is in effect from 11:30 PM MDT tonight, October 11, until 6:00 AM MDT tomorrow, October 12.

Residents in these areas should prepare for heavy snow with additional accumulations of up to 3 inches. Travel is expected to be very difficult. The NWS advises that the wet and heavy nature of the snow could cause tree branches to fall, leading to isolated power outages.

If travel is essential, motorists are urged to keep an extra flashlight, food, and water in their vehicles. For the latest road conditions, dial 511.
