Courtney Herdering Awarded Sister Judine Cassidy Scholarship at LFCHS

Sister Cordy Korkowski and Stephanie Hakes from Community Relations had the honor of presenting the $1,000 Sister Judine Cassidy Scholarship during the awards ceremony at Little Falls Community High School on Wednesday evening, May 13. This year’s graduating senior recipient is Courtney Herdering, daughter of Gary and Trisha Herdering. Courtney plans to attend the University of Minnesota Rochester, where she will pursue a degree in Health Sciences. We extend our congratulations to Courtney as she begins this exciting new chapter and pursues a future in healthcare. Through the generosity and enduring support of the St. Francis High School alumnae, these scholarships continue to invest in young people who are called to lives of service and care for others.   Pictured L-R: Sister Cordy Korkowski, Courtney Herdering, and Stephanie Hakes

Volunteer Spotlight: Cynthia Celebrates Weekly Craft Time with Sisters

Today we’re excited to highlight Cynthia, whose connection to the Franciscan Sisters began as a 1972 graduate of Saint Francis High School. That lifelong bond has grown into a deep appreciation for the Sisters’ way of life and a commitment to serving alongside them.  Cynthia shares her time and talents in so many ways—helping set up in the dining room, assisting with food service, volunteering at the blood drive and Green Fair, celebrating birthdays, and spending meaningful time in companionship with the elderly Sisters.  Her favorite part of volunteering? “Coming every Thursday to do crafts with the Sisters. We paint, laugh, and share experiences.” It’s these moments of joy and connection that make her service so special.  Thank you, Cynthia, for your generosity, creativity, and the joy you bring each week. We are so grateful for you!

Franciscan Sisters Promote National 250 Acts of Kindness Movement

The Leadership Teams of Women Religious in Minnesota, South Dakota and North Dakota invite you to individually commit to 250 Acts of Kindness in our 250th year as a nation. 250 Acts of Kindness Movement is a national call inviting individuals, schools, faith communities, and organizations to complete 250 intentional acts of kindness in 2026----one for each year of America's history. It's part of the growing United States of Kindness movement, which aims to make kindness a defining legacy of the nation's 250th anniversary. United States of Kindness Website >> https://www.usofkindness.org/ The campaign is supported by civic leaders, nonprofits, schools, and faith communities. It is designed to make kindness visible, contagious, and communal, with participants sharing stories to inspire others. The goal is to spark 250 million acts of kindness nationwide, creating a ripple effect of connection and hope. In recent years we have seen an increase in polarization, especially in the political arena. In our history of 250 years there have been many atrocities against minorities, new immigrants, African American and First Nation peoples. There have also been many heroic efforts to support others in times of difficulty, exclusion, and struggle, most recently to support our immigrant neighbors. Kindness and mercy foster trust and break barriers, becoming an integral part of our lives rather than just an extra action. Promoting an intentional, conscious way of living with kindness may be a way of rebuilding our nation. We choose to act with kindness toward all and especially those with whom we disagree, those we are afraid of, those we are uncomfortable with, those who have been told they do not belong, as well as those with whom we share life every day. Our intentionality to respond with kindness is more important than counting the acts of kindness. This practice will deepen our awareness of the connection between all of us.
