CIA Director John Ratcliffe visited Moscow on Tuesday for meetings with Russian intelligence services. The trip remained unannounced until the Kremlin confirmed details of the visit.
Dmitry Peskov, a spokesman for Russian President Vladimir Putin, confirmed Ratcliffe's presence in the Russian capital. Peskov stated that Ratcliffe did not meet with President Putin during his visit.
Such high-level meetings between U.S. and Russian intelligence chiefs are uncommon. The purpose and specific agenda of Ratcliffe's discussions with Russian intelligence officials were not disclosed by either side.
