Dense Fog Advisory for Eastern Kentucky, Drive with Caution
A Special Weather Statement warns of dense fog reducing visibility to under one-quarter mile in much of eastern Kentucky until sunrise today, October 5, 2026; drivers should use low-beam headlights and allow extra travel time.
A Special Weather Statement has been issued by the National Weather Service (NWS) in Jackson, KY, regarding dense fog affecting parts of eastern Kentucky. This statement is effective immediately, beginning at 2:52 AM EDT on October 5, 2026, and is expected to persist until near or shortly after sunrise, approximately 8:00 AM UTC (4:00 AM EDT).
Visibility has been reduced to below one-quarter mile in some areas. Residents in the following counties should be aware of these conditions: Estill, Powell, Menifee, Rockcastle, Jackson, Pulaski, Laurel, Wayne, McCreary, Whitley, Knox, Bell, Harlan, Elliott, Morgan, Johnson, Wolfe, Magoffin, Floyd, Lee, Breathitt, Knott, Owsley, Perry, Clay, Leslie, Letcher, Martin, and Pike.
If you must travel through the remainder of the overnight, the NWS advises using low-beam headlights. Drivers should allow extra time to reach their destinations and increase their separation distance from other vehicles due to reduced visibility.
