Tropical Storm Warning for Leon County: Prepare for Severe Weather
A Tropical Storm Warning is in effect for Leon County until October 9, 7:15 AM UTC, bringing hazardous winds, a high potential for major flooding, and the possibility of several tornadoes; residents should complete preparations now.
A Tropical Storm Warning has been issued for Leon County, including Tallahassee, Woodville, and Bradfordville, by the National Weather Service (NWS) Tallahassee FL, effective immediately as of October 8 at 11:05 PM EDT. This warning remains in effect until October 9 at 7:15 AM UTC.
Residents should act now to complete preparations for hazardous wind, potential major flooding, and several possible tornadoes. Winds are forecast to reach 10-20 mph with gusts up to 35 mph, but the potential exists for winds between 39-57 mph. Damage to unsecured objects, tree limbs, and power outages are possible.
A Flood Watch is in effect, with an additional 4-8 inches of rain expected, leading to potential major flooding. Evacuations and rescues are likely in vulnerable areas. Rivers and small streams may overflow, and roads could become impassable. Heed all flood watches and warnings.
The NWS also indicates a favorable situation for several tornadoes, some potentially intense. Those in manufactured homes or on boats should prepare to relocate to safe shelter. Listen for tornado watches and warnings and be ready to shelter quickly if a warning is issued.
No storm surge inundation is forecast. For more information, visit NWS Tallahassee, Florida Division of Emergency Management, or Leon County Emergency Management.
