Tropical Storm Warning Issued for Leon County: Prepare for Severe Weather
A Tropical Storm Warning is in effect for Leon County, including Tallahassee, Woodville, and Bradfordville, with residents advised to prepare for severe winds, extensive flooding, and the potential for tornadoes until October 9 at 1:30 AM UTC.
LEON COUNTY, FL – The National Weather Service (NWS) Tallahassee has issued a Tropical Storm Warning for Leon County, effective immediately as of October 8 at 5:22 PM EDT. Residents in Tallahassee, Woodville, and Bradfordville should act now to prepare for severe winds, extensive flooding, and the potential for multiple tornadoes.
Wind gusts up to 35 mph are expected, with potential for sustained winds of 39 to 57 mph. Damage to outdoor property and limited power outages are possible. Efforts to protect property should be underway. Finish all preparations before hazardous winds begin.
A Flood Watch is in effect, with an additional 4-8 inches of rain, and locally higher amounts, expected. Major rainfall flooding is likely, prompting potential evacuations and rescues. Heed all flood watches and warnings; failure to act could result in serious injury or loss of life. Rivers and small streams may overflow their banks, making many roads impassable. Avoid driving through flooded areas.
The NWS also indicates a favorable situation for several tornadoes, some potentially intense. Residents in manufactured homes or on boats should relocate to safe shelter. Listen for tornado watches and warnings and be ready to shelter quickly if a warning is issued. This warning is set to expire on October 9 at 1:30 AM UTC.
