A Wind Advisory is in effect for Avery, Henderson, and mountain areas of Caldwell, Burke, McDowell, Rutherford, and Polk Counties until Sunday morning, with gusts up to 45 mph expected; secure loose objects and drive with caution.
A Wind Advisory has been issued by the National Weather Service Greenville-Spartanburg SC for Avery, Henderson, and the mountain portions of Caldwell, Burke, McDowell, Rutherford, and Polk Counties. The advisory is effective immediately, October 10, 2026, at 5:24 PM EDT, and will remain in effect until 8:00 AM EDT on Sunday, October 11, 2026.
East winds are expected to be between 10 to 20 mph with occasional gusts reaching up to 40 mph. A few isolated locations could experience brief gusts up to 45 mph. These strong winds may blow around unsecured outdoor objects. Residents should secure any loose items on their property. There is a possibility of tree limbs being blown down, which could lead to isolated power outages. Trees rooted in saturated soil may also be at risk of toppling.
Drivers, especially those operating high-profile vehicles, should exercise extra caution as strong winds can make driving difficult. Stay informed of any further developments by listening to local radio, television, or NOAA Weather Radio.
