CITRUS COUNTY, Fla. -- In accordance with Citrus County Code of Ordinances, Chapter 46, a burn ban has been enacted for unincorporated Citrus County starting April 1, 2026, after the Keetch-Byram Drought Index (KBDI) reached 502 on March 31, 2026.

While there is a possibility of some rainfall in the coming days, conditions across the county remain dry and vegetation is highly susceptible to ignition. Citrus County is currently experiencing severe to extreme drought conditions, and wildfire risk remains elevated. Citrus County Fire Rescue will continue to monitor environmental conditions closely. Once the KBDI remains below 500 for seven consecutive days, the burn ban may automatically lift; however, if conditions have not sufficiently improved, we may request the Board to keep the ban in place for public safety. Learn more about burn ban requirements on the Citrus County Fire Rescue site.
