Wind Advisory Issued: Gusts Up To 40 MPH Expected Tonight in Region

A Wind Advisory is in effect until 4 AM EDT Sunday for Johnson, Cocke Smoky Mountains, Southeast Greene, Unicoi, Southeast Carter, Blount Smoky Mountains, Sevier Smoky Mountains, Russell, and Washington areas, with gusts up to 40 mph expected.

A Wind Advisory has been issued by the National Weather Service in Morristown, TN, effective immediately and continuing until 4:00 AM EDT on Sunday, October 11.

Residents in affected areas should secure any outdoor objects that could be blown around by strong winds. Driving may become difficult, especially for high-profile vehicles, and extra caution is advised.

Southeast winds of 10 to 20 mph, with gusts up to 40 mph, are expected. These conditions could lead to tree limbs being blown down and a few power outages. The highest gusts are anticipated in or near high terrain, with lower gusts in lower elevations.

The advisory impacts the following areas: In Tennessee, Blount Smoky Mountains, Cocke Smoky Mountains, Johnson, Sevier Smoky Mountains, Southeast Carter, Southeast Greene, and Unicoi Counties. In Virginia, Russell and Washington VA Counties are affected.

The National Weather Service urges all residents in these areas to use extra caution when driving and to be aware of potential hazards from gusty winds. The advisory expires at 4:00 AM EDT on October 11.
