Red Flag Warning Colfax County Through Wednesday
The National Weather Service issued a Red Flag Warning and High Wind Warnings for Colfax County through Wednesday evening as sustained winds of 30-45 mph and gusts up to 70 mph combine with humidity levels as low as 8-20% to create extreme wildfire conditions.
The Colfax County Fire Marshal's Office warned residents that any spark could ignite fast-moving wildfires. The office prohibited outdoor burning, welding, grinding, and other spark-generating activities. Residents should not discard cigarettes outdoors, park vehicles on dry grass, or leave loose outdoor items unsecured.
High winds also pose hazards from falling trees and power lines. Travel will be dangerous, particularly for high-profile vehicles, and blowing dust may reduce visibility.
The Fire Marshal's Office may enact a county-wide burn ban if conditions worsen. Residents should review evacuation plans, clear defensible space around homes, and keep emergency kits accessible. Official updates will be released through county channels.
