FAA Seeks Airspace System Revamp With New Technology

Why it matters locally: Improved national airspace management could enhance efficiency for flights into and out of South Carolina's commercial airports, potentially impacting travel times and reliability for residents and visitors.

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has contracted Air Space Intelligence, a startup, to redevelop the U.S. airspace system. Previously, Alaska Airlines utilized Air Space Intelligence to enhance its operational efficiency. Alaska Airlines implemented the startup's technology to refine its flight scheduling and real-time operations. This internal optimization effort aimed to improve various aspects of the airline's network. The FAA's decision to engage Air Space Intelligence represents an initiative to update the national air traffic management infrastructure. The agency seeks to integrate new technological solutions into its system.
