Lake Wind Advisory Issued: Boaters Advised to Exercise Caution Until 11 PM Tonight
A Lake Wind Advisory is in effect until 11 PM EDT tonight for much of central South Carolina, with east winds up to 35 mph creating hazardous conditions for small craft on area lakes.
Boaters on area lakes should exercise extra caution today, October 10, as a Lake Wind Advisory has been issued by the National Weather Service Columbia SC. The advisory is effective until 11:00 PM EDT this evening.
East winds are expected to reach 10 to 20 mph, with gusts up to 35 mph. These conditions will create strong winds and rough waves, posing hazardous conditions for small craft on lakes within the affected areas.
The advisory covers a significant portion of central South Carolina, including Chesterfield, Newberry, Fairfield, Kershaw, Saluda, Lexington, Richland, Lee, Aiken, Sumter, Barnwell, Calhoun, Clarendon, Bamberg, Northern Lancaster, Southern Lancaster, Northwestern Orangeburg, Central Orangeburg, and Southeastern Orangeburg counties.
The National Weather Service specifically warns that strong winds and rough waves can overturn small craft. All boaters are urged to be aware of these conditions and take necessary precautions to ensure their safety.
