URGENT: Severe Thunderstorm Warning for Kiowa, Prowers Counties

Residents in northeastern Prowers County and southeastern Kiowa County are advised to seek immediate shelter. The National Weather Service in Pueblo has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Warning effective until 7:15 PM MDT today, September 20.

At 6:29 PM MDT, a severe thunderstorm was detected 11 miles northwest of Bristol, moving south at 20 mph. This storm carries hazards of tennis ball size hail and 70 mph wind gusts. Impacts include potential injury to people and animals outdoors, significant damage to roofs, siding, windows, and vehicles, as well as considerable tree damage. Wind damage is also likely to mobile homes, roofs, and outbuildings.

Affected locations include Holly, Granada, Hartman, and Bristol.

For your protection, move to an interior room on the lowest floor of a building. Remain alert for a possible tornado; tornadoes can develop quickly from severe thunderstorms. If you spot a tornado, go at once into a basement or small central room in a sturdy structure.
