Michael Todd Hipp, 65, of Winston-Salem, passed away peacefully on Monday, May 18, 2026, surrounded by family after a short battle with leukemia.Born on October 11, 1960, in Whitmire, South Carolina, to Judy Lindler Hipp and the late Ned Hawkins Hipp.Todd graduated from North Forsyth High School and continued his education at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte and Forsyth Technical Community College. After working in construction, he followed in his father’s footsteps and developed a true love for woodworking and carpentry, a craft he carried with him throughout his life. For 31 years, Todd shared a loving marriage with his wife, Wendy May Hipp. Together they built a life centered around family, quiet moments, and the people they loved most. He is also survived by his son, Michael Bryce Hipp (fiancée Amy Ballman); his daughter, Kirsten Mae Hipp (fiancé Shaun Gizdic) and his brothers, Russ Hipp and Steve Hipp (Martha Hipp).Todd most valued time with his family. He loved evenings grilling on the back deck, cheering on his favorite teams, and simply being surrounded by people he loved. Quiet by nature but endlessly funny, he had a sharp sense of humor, a generous spirit, and with an incredibly soft heart, had a way of caring for others that left a lasting impact on everyone around him.He was an avid sports fan, especially the Alabama Crimson Tide, the Pittsburgh Steelers, as well as his children’s alma maters, the South Carolina Gamecocks and the East Carolina Pirates. The crimson ribbon representing the leukemia he bravely battled mirrors the color of one of his most beloved teams, Alabama. A detail those close to him would have appreciated.A funeral service will be held at 3:00 PM on Saturday, May 30, 2026, followed immediately by a Celebration of Life gathering. The service will be held at Salem Funeral at 2951 Reynolda Rd., Winston-Salem, NC 27106. As many know, Todd had a deep love for animals, especially dogs. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Friends of Stokes Shelter, 111 Dodgetown Rd., Walnut Cove, NC 27052, or Forsyth Humane Society, 4881 Country Club Rd., Winston-Salem, NC 27104.For the service, Sunday best attire is requested with the exclusion of suits. Please feel free to dress in any color that you wish as we celebrate the life of Todd.
