Civil Process Unit The Hernando County Sheriff's Office Civil Process Unit carries out the Sheriff's statutory responsibility for the service of process and execution of writs per section 30.15 (1) of the Florida Statutes. These judicial process documents originate from the courts, government agencies, private attorneys, and the public in Florida and throughout the United States. The Civil Process Unit also executes enforceable orders, such as Levies, Replevins, and Child Pickup Orders. The Hernando County Sheriff's Office does not give legal advice or information. For legal advice, contact an attorney. 2024 New Civil Process Legislation Update - Property Rights This is a legal update regarding the passage of House Bill 621 relating to an unlawful detainer, Florida Statute 82.036, which will take effect July 1st, 2024. Property Rights; Authorizes property owners or authorized agents to request assistance from the sheriff for immediately removing unauthorized occupants from residential dwelling under certain conditions; requires specified complaint; provides requirements for sheriff; authorizes arrest of unauthorized occupant; provides that sheriff is not liable to any party for loss, destruction, or damage; provides that property owner or agent is not liable to any party for loss or destruction of, or damage to, personal property unless it was wrongfully removed; prohibits unlawfully detaining, or occupying or trespassing upon, residential dwelling intentionally & causing at least specified amount of damage; provides criminal penalties for any person who knowingly & willfully presents false document purporting to be valid lease agreement, deed, or other instrument conveying real property rights; prohibits listing or advertising for sale, or renting or leasing, residential real property. HB 621 Legal Analysis: HB 621 creates a new Florida Statute 82.036, a Limited alternative remedy to remove unauthorized persons from residential real property. It provides requirements for the Sheriffs, including authorizing the Sheriff to arrest an unauthorized occupant for legal cause. Sheriffs are entitled to a standard fee of $90 and additional money for the standby fees at a reasonable hourly rate. The Sheriff is NOT liable to any party for any loss, destruction, or damage. Fees Charged by the Civil Process Unit: NOTE: Fees are earned upon receipt of Civil Process when each "Request of service" is made, and by Florida Statute these fees are non-refundable. Fees are based on one defendant or respondent or witness, fee is per party served. Fees must be cash, money order or business checks. NO PERSONAL CHECKS. Non-Enforceables (Summons, Subpoenas, Notices, Garnishments, Notices of Tax Sale and all other non-enforceables including alias and pluries): $40.00 Enforceables (Writs of Replevin, Writs of Bodily Attachment and Writs of Possession): $90.00 Levy Minimum Cost Deposits: - Vehicles, small boats and small trucks: $5,000.00 - Real Property: $2,000.00 (advance cost deposits may be more substantial if additional costs must be incurred such as locksmith, electrician, heavy equipment operator, etc.) - Personal Property (Household or Office Furnishings): Deposit amounts will vary depending on the quantity and size of the items being levied upon. A complete inventory list will need to be seen by the Levy Clerk before an amount is determined. Additional Fees: - Sheriff's levy or demand of property: $50.00 - Preparing Newspaper Advertisement: $40.00 - Certified Mail to all Parties: Cost will vary - Holding Sheriff's Sale: $40.00 per sale - Bill of Sale or Sheriff's Deed: $40.00 - Satisfaction of Judgment: $40.00 - Filing/Recording fee: Actual clerk fees - Processing Writ and Preparing File: $40.00 Please make business checks and money orders out to Hernando County Sheriff's Office. James “Jim” Elton Farmer, born June 14, 1944, in Lamesa, Texas, to Leonard and Avanell (McGregor) Farmer, passed away on Saturday, May 30, 2026.Jim proudly served his country in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War as a member of the helicopter attack squadron known as the Seawolves. Following his military service, he built a life centered on family, adventure, and hard work.Jim and his wife, Marilyn Elizabeth (Thomson) Farmer, shared 58 years of marriage, raising their family in Eastland, Texas. Together they created a lifetime of memories.An outdoorsman at heart, Jim found joy in guiding snowmobile tours in Buena Vista, Colorado, exploring mountain trails on ATVs, and traveling the country in his RV. He was an avid baker who loved making homemade bread, a dedicated researcher of his family’s genealogy, and someone who never failed to end the day with a bowl of ice cream.Known affectionately as “Papa” to his grandchildren, Jim treasured the time he spent with his family.He is survived by his wife, Marilyn Elizabeth (Thomson) Farmer; his daughter, Amy Hennis; his son, Eric Farmer; and grandchildren, Lauren Hennis and Haley Hennis.Jim’s legacy of service, curiosity, adventure, and love for family will continue to live on through all who were fortunate enough to know him.

Luzerne 'Lou' Tuttle, Texas Resident, Passes at 64

Luzerne Everette Tuttle passed away May 31, 2026, with his daughter and nieces by his side. He was born on August 8, 1961 to the parents of Luzerne F. Tuttle and Ruth A. Mouck.Luzerne liked to be called “Lou.”Lou had a son and daughter. His daughter Rosalee Tuttle and fiancé (Michael Martinez) had given him the best gift on April 28, 2025, his first grandson Michael. Lou loved spending time with them and loved them very much. He was so proud to be a grandpa.Lou has two sisters and one brother. His oldest sister Alisa Nasworthy and brother-in-law John Nasworthy who passed away in 2003, and a now longtime partner Tony Gill. Three nieces and one nephew. Eight great nephews and two great nieces. Jessica (Randy) Harris with Joshua, Logan, and Karson. Shena (Shane) Rebb with Skylor, Zayne, and Koye. Ruth Nasworthy children by Robert Sanders; Sally, Kayden, Payten, and Priscilla. His baby sister, Tammy Tuttle and brother-in-law, Dale Donato who passed away in 2024 with a son Ronnie. A brother Monty Tuttle.Lou had many jobs in his life, but the one he cherished most was when he was an Auto Body Painter. He was extremely good at it. Lou had an old truck that one day he dreamed he would fix up and pass down to his grandson. Lou had a passion for music and was a DJ for years. Although his family was in New York his love for Texas was very strong and that is where he finally settled. He rocked the cowboy hats and cowboy boots. Lou was a Jets fan and also played football in his younger years for Indian River. He loved watching Rocky and later enjoyed it even more with his daughter Rosalee.Lou was brought home to the lord by his mother, father, two brothers- in-law, a son that was still born, many friends and relatives.If you wish to donate please consider making a donation to Lou’s daughter Rosalee as she will be trying to pay for the expenses. Eileene Carey, Longtime Granbury Resident, Dies at 84

Eileene Michel Crook Carey, a beloved mother, wife, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away on May 26, 2026, at the age of 84. Eileene was born on March 28, 1942, in Willows, California, and resided in Granbury, Texas. She was a woman of many talents, with a love for life and a heart as beautiful as the flowers she tended in her garden.Eileene was a graduate of Enid, Oklahoma High School in 1960. After high school, she worked as a hostess for TWA for about 2 1/2 years until 1964. Eileene then married the love of her life, Phil Carey, on June 6, 1964, and their journey together was filled with love, laughter, and countless cherished memories. They were blessed with two children, Annette, born in 1965, and David, born in 1967. Eileene was a dedicated mother and homemaker, and her family was her greatest joy. She was also a woman of many passions, among them flower gardening, landscape artistry, and party planning. With her gardening skills, she improved the landscape of every home they owned. Her holiday decorations, especially at Halloween and Christmas, were legendary, and her home was always filled with warmth and love.Eileene was predeceased by her parents, Charles and Marjorie Crook, and her sisters, Margaret Dowers and LaDonna Miller.She is survived by her devoted husband and soulmate, Phil Carey; her children, Annette (John) Minnerly and David (Sarah) Carey; her grandchildren, Michael Carey, Rachel (Gabriel) Flores, and Charles (Lydia) Minnerly; her great-granddaughter, Sophia Flores; and her sisters, Janice Decovic, Christine (Gary) Darnell, and Patricia Goldsberry. As well as many nieces, nephews, and friends.A memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 20, 2026, at 2:00 pm at the Wiley Center, located at 420 E Hwy 377, Granbury, Texas, 76048.Services are under the direction of Wiley Funeral Home - Granbury.
