Russian drone strike kills family of three in Sumy; Ukrainian strike hits Russian plant

A Russian drone strike on Sumy, a city in northeastern Ukraine, killed three family members Monday, including a child, according to officials. The strike claimed the lives of a 13-year-old boy and two other relatives.

The same day, Ukrainian forces struck a Russian industrial plant, killing five people on the facility, officials reported.

Both attacks occurred as Russia and Ukraine continue exchanging strikes across their respective territories. Sumy, located roughly 40 kilometers from the Russian border, has faced repeated attacks throughout the conflict.

Ukrainian officials did not immediately provide additional details about the family members killed in the Sumy strike. Russian authorities have not released a statement regarding the strike on the industrial plant or confirmed the casualty count.

The strikes represent the latest in a series of attacks targeting civilian and military infrastructure on both sides. Russian forces have conducted hundreds of drone strikes against Ukrainian cities since the full-scale invasion began in 2022. Ukrainian forces have also targeted Russian military and industrial sites in response.

Sumy has emerged as a frequent target for Russian strikes. The city's proximity to the border and its location on a major supply route have made it strategically significant throughout the conflict.
