Leesburg residents can now access a wider range of interactive geographical information online through the city's Geographic Information Systems (GIS) division. The division has expanded its online offerings to include interactive maps detailing parcel data, zoning land use, and topology.
The GIS division, an internal service department of the Leesburg City Government, provides essential mapping and technical drawing support to all city departments and utilities. This expansion aims to make data more accessible to citizens for daily work, future planning, and safety.
Among the new features is an Addressing Map, which allows users to search for addresses within Leesburg or globally. This interactive tool offers full-screen mode, street maps, aerial views, and zoom capabilities. Additionally, a FEMA Flood Rate Insurance Map is available; however, the city advises users to verify information with city staff for complete accuracy.
The city emphasizes that GIS technologies provide high-quality data crucial for decision-making by the City Commission and other officials. The division partners with Lake County GIS to maintain parcel base maps and track approved developments. The GIS division also supports public safety, providing crime statistics analysis for the Police Department and fire hydrant mapping for the Fire Department.
The GIS division is actively consolidating information on land use, zoning, and property owners. In collaboration with the City's Information Technology Department, it is working to make this data available through the city's website. Residents should check back for updates as more services are developed.
For questions about the maps or data, residents can contact the GIS General email. The city advises that while efforts are made to ensure accuracy, the data provided is for informational purposes only and users should not rely solely on it for critical decisions.
