Lake Alfred Commission OKs Land Development Code Updates

Lake Alfred city commissioners approved amendments to the city's Unified Land Development Code (ULDC) on September 19, 2026. Ordinance No. 1566-25 addresses updates required by the retroactive application of state legislative measure CS/CS/SB 180, which nullified certain prior ULDC provisions.

The amendments primarily update Article 2, "District Standards," and Article 10, "Definitions," within the ULDC. Applicable cross-references also received updates.

The city's Business Impact Estimate indicates the direct economic impact on private, for-profit businesses in Lake Alfred is negligible. The ordinance offers an applicant-initiated alternative for owners and developers rather than imposing new requirements. While current and future developments will be affected, the estimate lists zero businesses as directly impacted due to the elective nature of the provisions.

The ordinance enacts provisions of Part II of Chapter 163, Florida Statutes, relating to growth policy and land development regulation. The City Commission stated the ordinance is not required for state or federal compliance, nor does it pertain to debt, budgets, contracts, or emergencies.
