TROUP COUNTY, GA – The National Weather Service (NWS) Peachtree City has issued a Tropical Storm Watch for Troup County, including La Grange, effective tonight, October 8, at 9:16 PM EDT. Residents should immediately begin preparations for hazardous conditions, which include potential tropical storm force winds, moderate flooding rain, and several possible tornadoes.
Wind gusts up to 40 mph are expected, with the potential for sustained winds of 39 to 57 mph. Damage to unsecured structures, large tree limbs, and some power outages are possible. Efforts to protect property should be underway now, and preparations must be completed before winds become hazardous. A Flood Watch is also in effect, with 1-3 inches of rain possible, potentially causing significant flooding, especially in vulnerable areas. Heed all flood watches and warnings.
A significant tornado threat is also present. Emergency plans should include the potential for several tornadoes, with some possibly intense. Those in manufactured homes or boats should prepare to relocate to safe shelter. Listen for tornado watches and warnings and be ready to shelter quickly.
