A Tropical Storm Watch has been issued for Troup County, effective immediately, urging residents to prepare for severe winds, significant flooding, and potential tornadoes.
TROUP COUNTY – The National Weather Service (NWS) in Peachtree City, GA has issued a Tropical Storm Watch for Troup County, including La Grange, effective October 9 at 4:43 AM EDT. This watch indicates that tropical storm conditions are possible within the next 48 hours. The watch is set to expire on October 9 at 12:45 PM UTC.
Residents should immediately begin preparations for potential wind gusts up to 45 mph, significant flooding, and the possibility of multiple tornadoes. Damage to property, power outages, and impassable roads are anticipated. A Flood Watch is also in effect, with 1-3 inches of rain expected, and locally higher amounts possible.
For wind, efforts to protect property should be underway now. Complete preparations before hazardous winds arrive. For flooding, heed all flood watches and warnings; failure to act may result in serious injury or loss of life. For tornadoes, listen for watches and warnings, and be ready to shelter quickly if a tornado warning is issued. Those in manufactured homes or on boats should prepare to relocate to safe shelter.
