Tropical Storm Watch Issued for Troup County: Prepare for Severe Weather
A Tropical Storm Watch has been issued for Troup County, including La Grange, by the NWS Peachtree City GA, urging immediate preparations for hazardous winds, significant flooding, and potential tornadoes until 11:00 PM UTC today.
A Tropical Storm Watch has been issued for Troup County, including La Grange, effective immediately by the National Weather Service (NWS) Peachtree City GA. This watch is in effect until 11:00 PM UTC today, October 8, 2026. Residents are urged to take immediate action to prepare for potential hazardous winds, significant flooding, and several tornadoes.
The NWS forecasts peak winds of 10-20 mph with gusts up to 40 mph, with the potential for sustained winds of 39 to 57 mph. Efforts to protect property should be underway now. Complete all preparations before winds become hazardous. Damage to unanchored mobile homes, large tree limbs, and some fences is possible, leading to scattered power and communication outages. Driving conditions may become hazardous, especially on elevated roadways.
A Flood Watch is also in effect. Expect 1-3 inches of rain, with locally higher amounts, posing a significant threat for moderate flooding. Evacuations and rescues are possible due to swollen rivers, overflowing small streams, and potential inundation in low-lying areas. Heed all flood watches and warnings; failure to act may result in serious injury or loss of life.
The situation is favorable for tornadoes, with a potential for several, some possibly intense. Those in manufactured homes or on boats should relocate to safe shelter before hazardous weather arrives. Listen for tornado watches and warnings. If a tornado warning is issued, shelter quickly. Tornadoes can cause considerable damage, power loss, and communications failures, and create dangerous flying debris. For more information, visit ready.gov/hurricanes and weather.gov/atlanta.
