Chipotle Mexican Grill partnered with the London Vegetable Orchestra to produce an original song titled “From Ground to Sound.” The track was recorded at Abbey Road Studios in London, featuring instruments crafted entirely from fresh produce used in Chipotle’s restaurants.
The song highlights Chipotle’s commitment to real ingredients by transforming them into an auditory experience. The five-member London Vegetable Orchestra, formed in 2010, used instruments such as corn flutes, jalapeño trumpets, and a bell pepper horn. An avocado pit, lettuce percussion, and an onion bass also contributed to the composition.
The collaboration involved three months of experimentation to determine how ingredients could be fashioned into functional musical instruments. Chipotle's chief brand officer, Fernando Machado, stated the project aimed to create a track intrinsically linked to the brand’s identity, with instruments, sound, and story rooted in their daily operations.
Patrick Johns of the London Vegetable Orchestra noted the inherent variability in vegetable instruments, emphasizing the craft involved in finding an ingredient's natural sound. The song “From Ground to Sound” is available on Spotify and Apple Music. A related film can be viewed on YouTube.
