President Trump Issued Pardons to Fifteen Individuals with Public Corruption Convictions
During his presidency, Donald Trump granted clemency to at least fifteen individuals who had been convicted of or implicated in crimes related to public corruption. These individuals included former elected officials and those alleged to have conspired with them.
The pardons, issued over the course of Trump's term, covered convictions on a variety of charges. The U.S. Constitution grants the president the power to issue pardons for federal crimes, offering a path to forgiveness or shortened sentences.
Pardons restore certain rights lost as a result of a conviction, such as the right to vote, hold public office, and own firearms. A pardon does erase or expunge the record of conviction, but it officially forgives the offense.
