Iran and Oman Discuss Strait of Hormuz Shipping Plan

TEHRAN – Officials from Iran and Oman are engaged in talks to establish a temporary arrangement for shipping through the Strait of Hormuz. The discussions center on a plan that would facilitate the movement of vessels through the critical maritime passage.

Iran has stated that its agreement to any plan for the strait depends on the United States lifting what Tehran describes as a blockade. The U.S. maintains sanctions targeting various sectors of the Iranian economy.

The Strait of Hormuz, a narrow channel between the Persian Gulf and the Arabian Sea, serves as a primary route for a significant portion of the world's oil shipments.

Simultaneously, oil prices have shown a decline. The ongoing negotiations between Iran and Oman occur as the U.S. continues to enforce sanctions against Tehran, including secondary sanctions that affect entities doing business with Iran.
