Kittitas County has successfully completed its 2025 audit, receiving a clean report with no findings from the Washington State Auditor’s Office (SAO). This marks the second consecutive year the county has achieved this milestone, reflecting ongoing improvements in financial stewardship, internal controls, and transparent management of public funds.
The clean audit is expected to positively impact the county’s risk profile and potentially lower costs for future audit cycles. Kittitas County Auditor Bryan Elliott credited the achievement to a countywide effort.
“I am extremely proud of the professional collaboration from our Auditor’s Finance Team, and all departments and offices that contributed to this successful audit,” Elliott stated. “We remain committed to compliant, transparent, and responsible management of taxpayer dollars, and we will continue to strive for excellence in future audits.”
Board of County Commissioners Chair Brett Wachsmith echoed this sentiment, emphasizing accountability as a cornerstone of good government. “This clean audit demonstrates Kittitas County’s commitment to fiscal responsibility, transparency, and continuous improvement,” Wachsmith said. “On behalf of the Board of County Commissioners, I want to recognize the Auditor’s Office and all county finance employees whose hard work made this achievement possible. Their efforts help ensure that taxpayer dollars are managed with the care and integrity our residents expect and deserve.”
The 2025 audit builds on previous progress. In earlier audit cycles, Kittitas County had no questioned costs and completed audits on time, while addressing minor administrative reporting requirements for federal grants. Through focused collaboration and strengthened processes, the county has now achieved two consecutive audits without any findings.
Departments and offices across Kittitas County contributed to the successful audit, including the Treasurer’s Office, Public Works, Public Health, the Kittitas County Sheriff’s Office, and the Board of County Commissioners, among many other county employees.
The full 2025 Kittitas County audit report will be accessible through the Washington State Auditor’s Office audit-report database.
