Strong Thunderstorm Warning: Gusts Up to 40 mph, Pea-Size Hail, and Flooding Possible

A Special Weather Statement has been issued by the National Weather Service (NWS) Morristown TN for portions of Campbell, Claiborne (Tennessee), and Lee (Virginia) counties, effective immediately until 11:45 PM EDT tonight, September 21, 2026.

At 11:07 PM EDT, NWS radar indicated a strong thunderstorm near Pruden, approximately 9 miles southwest of Middlesboro, moving east at 15 mph. This storm is capable of producing wind gusts up to 40 mph and pea-size hail. Gusty winds could dislodge tree limbs and unsecured objects. Minor damage to vegetation from hail is possible.

Torrential rainfall is also accompanying this storm, which may lead to localized flooding. Do not attempt to drive through flooded roadways.

Residents in affected areas including New Tazewell, Tazewell, Harrogate, Springdale, Cumberland Gap, Arthur, Powell River Preserve, Clairfield, and Sandlick should consider seeking shelter inside a building if outdoors. This statement expires at 11:45 PM EDT.
