Residents in Attala, Leake, Scott, Smith, Jefferson Davis, Covington, Marion, and Lamar Counties are advised to secure outdoor objects and exercise caution while driving due to a Wind Advisory issued by the National Weather Service (NWS) in Jackson, MS.

The advisory is effective immediately, October 9, 2026, at 1:50 PM CDT, and will remain in effect until 7:00 PM CDT on Saturday, October 10, 2026. Northeast winds are expected to shift to the north, with sustained speeds of 20 to 30 mph and gusts potentially reaching up to 45 mph. Isolated gusts of up to 50 mph are possible.

These strong winds may make driving difficult, particularly for high-profile vehicles. The NWS warns that tree limbs could be blown down, and a few power outages may occur. Unsecured outdoor objects are susceptible to being blown around.

The NWS instructs individuals to use extra caution when driving and to secure any loose outdoor items to prevent damage or injury.
