Dangerous Rip Currents Expected for Northern Outer Banks, Core Banks Beaches

A Beach Hazards Statement has been issued for the Northern Outer Banks and Core Banks beaches, warning of dangerous rip currents from 8 AM EDT Saturday, October 10, until Saturday evening.

Beachgoers are advised to exercise extreme caution due to a Beach Hazards Statement issued by the National Weather Service (NWS) Newport/Morehead City NC. Dangerous rip currents are expected for the Northern Outer Banks and Core Banks beaches.

This statement is effective from 8 AM EDT Saturday, October 10, until Saturday evening. The most likely time for strong rip currents to occur is a couple of hours either side of low tide, which is anticipated around 2:00 PM on Saturday. Rip currents can quickly sweep even strong swimmers away from shore into deeper waters.

If you are caught in a rip current, remain calm. Swim in a direction following the shoreline. If you become tired, float or tread water until you are out of the rip current. If you are unable to escape, face the shore and call or wave for help.
