Monroe County Planning Department Updates Comprehensive Plan, Works on Livable CommuniKeys Master Plan
The Monroe County Planning & Environmental Resources Department, located at 1100 Simonton Street in Key West, continues its work on fostering sustainable, high-quality development across the county. The department also focuses on conserving and promoting stewardship of the county’s fragile environment and the unique character of its diverse island communities.
Officials confirm the department is currently updating the Monroe County Comprehensive Plan. This plan guides development and land use decisions throughout the county. In conjunction with this update, the department collaborates with Monroe County communities to prepare the Livable CommuniKeys Master Plan, a project aimed at enhancing the quality of life in local neighborhoods.
The department administers the adopted Monroe County Comprehensive Plan and Land Development Regulations. It processes amendments to both the Comprehensive Plan and Land Development Regulations. Additionally, the department reviews development proposals for compliance with these regulations, including environmental compliance. The department also oversees projects such as the Overseas Heritage Trail, scenic highways, and historic preservation initiatives.
