Tom Tiffany Plane Lands Safely in Lake Wausau

Republican gubernatorial candidate U.S. Representative Tom Tiffany and a pilot escaped unharmed Saturday night after their plane made an emergency landing in Lake Wausau.
The four-seat Bonanza aircraft lost power while approaching Wausau Downtown Airport. The pilot executed a water landing on Lake Wausau.
Tiffany, who had been at the La Crosse County Lincoln Day Dinner, reported on social media that he and the pilot called 911 immediately after hitting the water. The plane began to sink before emergency responders arrived.
"As the plane began to submerge, we exited the aircraft and swam to a shallow area, where we waited until emergency responders reached us by boat," Tiffany wrote.
Rescuers transported Tiffany and the pilot to Aspirus Wausau Hospital, where they received treatment for minor injuries.
Tiffany expressed gratitude to the pilot, the Wausau Fire Department, and all first responders. He is campaigning for governor and represents Wisconsin's 7th Congressional District. The cause of the power loss is under investigation.
