Elevated Wildfire Risk Across U.P. Through Sunday; Burn Ban In Effect

A Special Weather Statement warns of elevated wildfire potential across much of the U.P. through Sunday due to gusty winds and dry conditions; obey burn restrictions and report fires to 911.

Residents across the Upper Peninsula are advised of an elevated wildfire potential through Sunday, October 11, at 6:00 PM UTC. The National Weather Service (NWS) Marquette MI issued a Special Weather Statement today, October 10, at 5:47 PM EDT, due to gusty southerly winds up to 30 mph, coupled with dry, warm conditions and minimal recent rainfall.

Affected areas include Keweenaw, Houghton, Baraga, Marquette, Alger, Luce, Iron, Dickinson, Menominee, Delta, Southern Schoolcraft, Southern Houghton, Northern Schoolcraft, Western Chippewa, Central Chippewa, Southeast Chippewa, Western Mackinac, and Eastern Mackinac counties.
