Keokuk Schools Explore Expanded Lee County District Partnerships
The Keokuk Community School District sent letters to Central Lee and Fort Madison school districts in April seeking expanded partnerships that could combine athletic programs and course offerings across Lee County.
Superintendent Kathy Dinger proposed the collaboration after the school board discussed it on April 20. The three districts already partner on the Lee County CEO program for juniors and seniors and share some athletic agreements.
Potential areas for collaboration include combining baseball and softball programs with Central Lee and expanding advanced placement classes across all three schools.
All three districts face declining enrollment, rising operational costs and inadequate state funding. Keokuk recently updated its Budget Reduction Plan to address these pressures while limiting tax increases for property owners.
No formal discussions have taken place. The letter marks an initial inquiry into whether the districts want to pursue talks.
