Keokuk High School Students Earn Referee Certifications

Staff Writer

Keokuk High School students earn sports referee certifications

Sixteen Keokuk High School students will earn referee certifications in four sports this spring through the Iowa High School Athletic Association RefReps program.

Students complete training under the National Federation of State High School Associations program, which prepares high school students to officiate games in their communities. Upon certification, they can work games and help address a shortage of sports officials.

"The program gives our students the chance to earn officiating certifications, builds responsibility, keeps them connected to the sports they love, and puts them in a position to lead and serve in our community," Nathan Harrison, KHS principal, said.

More than 1,300 students nationwide have completed RefReps training. Iowa ranks tenth nationally in total RefReps students, with 56 schools offering the course. More information is available at refreps.com.
