A Rip Current Statement has been issued for Kenedy, Willacy, and Cameron Island counties from 2:00 AM to 7:00 PM CDT today, October 5, due to dangerous rip currents. Swim near a lifeguard and know how to escape a rip current.
Coastal residents and visitors in Kenedy, Willacy, and Cameron Island counties are advised of a Rip Current Statement in effect from 2:00 AM CDT until 7:00 PM CDT today, October 5.
The National Weather Service (NWS) Brownsville TX has issued this statement due to dangerous rip currents expected throughout the day. Rip currents can quickly sweep even strong swimmers away from shore into deeper water, posing a significant hazard.
If you are planning to enter the water today, the NWS urges you to swim near a lifeguard. If you find yourself caught in a rip current, remember to relax and float. Do not attempt to swim against the current. If possible, swim in a direction parallel to the shoreline to escape the current. If you are unable to escape, face the shore and call or wave for help to alert others to your situation.
