Gusty Showers Moving Southeast: Seek Shelter if Outdoors

A Special Weather Statement has been issued by the National Weather Service (NWS) Gaylord, Michigan, warning of gusty showers and isolated thunderstorms impacting several counties. The statement is effective immediately, October 7, 2026, at 6:59 PM EDT, and is set to expire at 8:00 PM EDT.

Doppler radar at 6:59 PM EDT tracked these weather systems moving southeast at 35 mph, extending from Bisma Township to near Morey. The primary hazard identified is wind gusts reaching up to 40 mph. These winds could potentially knock down tree limbs and displace unsecured outdoor objects.

Affected areas include Presque Isle, Otsego, Montmorency, Alpena, Kalkaska, Crawford, Oscoda, Alcona, Missaukee, Roscommon, and Ogemaw counties. Specific locations that may be impacted include Houghton Lake, Grayling, Ossineke, Roscommon, Lewiston, St. Helen, The Town Of Hubbard Lake, Mio, Atlanta, Prudenville, Lachine, Comins, Sharon, Frederic, McKinley, Long Rapids, Hillman, Lovells, Curran, and North Higgins Lake.

The NWS advises that if you are outdoors in these areas, you should consider seeking shelter inside a building until the statement expires at 8:00 PM EDT.
